Round Rock Beats Albuquerque 7-2 Behind Career Night for Winn

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Round Rock Express (28-16) watched starter RHP Cole Winn (4-0, 5.31) dazzle for 6.0 innings in a 7-2 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes (18-26) on Wednesday night at Isotopes Park. Winn allowed only three hits and tied a career high with nine strikeouts while issuing four walks.
Albuquerque RHP Brandon Gold (2-1, 4.21) collected the loss. He tossed 5.0 innings and allowed four runs on five hits while striking out five and walking one.
Along the Train Tracks:
The E-Train offense rumbled for two runs in the first inning. With Leody Taveras on base after a single, LF Zach Reks smashed a two-run shot to give Round Rock a 2-0 advantage.
In the fourth inning, Reks bunted for a single before DH Willie Calhoun belted the second home run of the night for Round Rock and extended the lead to 4-0.
Three Albuquerque singles plated a run in the fifth inning. DH Dom Nunez hit an RBI single to trim the Round Rock lead to 4-1.
The E-Train offense grabbed some insurance in the ninth. Reks and Calhoun each singled before C Yohel Pozo hit a double to make it a 5-1 game. After a sacrifice fly for 1B Elier Hernandez, SS Ryan Dorow slapped a single to add one more for a 7-1 lead.
Albuquerque put a run across in the ninth inning on a sacrifice fly from 3B Tim Lopes. Round Rock RHP Jesus Tinoco tossed the final inning and finished off the second win of the series for the Express.
E-Train Excerpts:
Express RHP Cole Winn tied his career high in strikeouts with nine and set a new career high in pitches thrown at 95. The Express are now 8-1 in games that Winn has started this season.
LF Zach Reks, DH Willie Calhoun and C Yohel Pozo each collected a multi-hit game. Reks had his first three-hit game of the season while Calhoun and Pozo each recorded two hits.
The Round Rock bullpen was lights out again as RHP Nick Tropeano and RHP Josh Sborz each tossed a scoreless inning. RHP Jesus Tinoco allowed one run in his 1.0 inning of work.
Next up: Round Rock will play game three of the series on Thursday night against Albuquerque from Isotopes Park. Express RHP Spencer Howard (0-0, 6.10) is slated to take the mound up against Isotopes RHP Peter Lambert (0-1, 9.00). First pitch is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. CT.
