Aces Vanquish Oklahoma City to Begin Second Half

RENO, Nev. – The Reno Aces (5-1, 40-41) showed their resilience as they bounced back from a series opener loss against the Oklahoma City Baseball Club (1-5, 41-40) to open the second half of the season at Greater Nevada Field. They took five out of six matchups, marking a new season high in consecutive wins.

Reno collected their first win on Wednesday night, a 9-8 battle. Deyvison De Los Santos headlined the scoring, scorching two home runs, including a grand slam in the 7thinning to put the Aces over the top. Andres Chaparro and Bryson Brigman roped big flys of their own, helping the Aces earn their first win of the second half.

Thursday’s 4-2 victory was a testament to the Aces' teamwork, highlighted by a crucial bullpen day started by Konnor Pilkington. He was backed up by Chris Rodriguez, Joe Jacques, Josh Green, and Erich Uelmen, who combined for 5 2/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Luis Frias would come out in the ninth to close out the win, earning his seventh save of the year after allowing one run in his lone inning.

Logan Allen’s sparkling performance on the mound was the deciding factor in Friday’s 3-1 victory. The southpaw held Oklahoma City scoreless through 5 1/3 innings with a season-high six strikeouts with just one walk. Adrian Del Castillo smashed his 15th big fly of the year in the win.

Albert Almora was the hero in Saturday’s close 5-4 victory, coming through in a massive spot with his sixth home run in a tied 4-4 game in the bottom of the eighth. Pavin Smith played an essential role in the win, gathering three hits with three RBI. Chris Ellis took a no-decision despite registering his second quality start of the year. The right-hander allowed two runs across six innings with three strikeouts.

Deyvison De Los Santos extended his incredible hot streak in Sunday’s 8-2 series finale. The exciting prospect accounted for all eight of Reno’s runs while clobbering two home runs, including his second grand slam of the series, to give the Aces an 8-1 lead. Tommy Henry returned to Greater Nevada Field after a quick stint with the Arizona Diamondbacks, limiting Oklahoma City to two runs in six frames while earning a new season-high in strikeouts with nine.

De Los Santos was by far the MVP of the series, going 8-for-22 (.363) with four home runs, including two grand slams as noted before, and a whopping 14 RBI. The powerful 21-year-old has been incredible in June,

The Aces bullpen showcased their best series to date, posting a 3.47 ERA with 20 punchouts through 23 1/3 innings. Chris Rodriguez headlined the pen, tossing 3 2/3 scoreless frames with four punchouts.

The Aces will be back at Greater Nevada Field for an exciting three-game set against the Sacramento River Cats, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. The series kicks off on Tuesday, July 4, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
