Reno, Nev. – The Reno Aces (20-18, 55-58) will head to El Paso this upcoming week to take on the Chihuahuas (15-24, 46-68), the Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, for a six-game series set to begin on Tuesday, August 13, at 5:35 p.m. Reno is coming off a series loss to the Tacoma Rainiers.

The matchup will be the first time the two clubs meet this season. At the end of September, Reno is scheduled to host El Paso for a six-game series. In 2023, they split the season series in 12 games.

Notable players on El Paso’s roster include outfielders Tirso Ornelas and Brandon Lockridge.

Ornelas, the #19 overall prospect in San Diego’s system, has been the Chihuahua’s most reliable hitter this season. In 95 games this season, the outfielder has slashed .309/.382/.517 with a team-high 17 home runs and 69 RBI. He currently stands fourth in the Pacific Coast in batting average (.309). The 24-year-old was dominant in July, going 36-for-86 (.419) with four doubles, five home runs, and 18 RBI. However, he has slowed down in August, collecting just four hits in 30 at-bats (.133) with two home runs and five RBI in nine games.

Brandon Lockridge, who the Padres recently acquired on July 30 in a trade with the New York Yankees, currently ranks as the #29 overall prospect in San Diego’s farm. The 27-year-old was impressive atop the order with the Scranton Wilkes-Barres (NYY AAA), slashing .295/.405/.382 with 15 doubles and 34 stolen bases before becoming a member of the Chihuahuas. Since joining El Paso, the Troy alumnus has struggled, going 6-for-33 (.182) with one home run and three RBI in nine games. Lockridge will look to get back to form against the Aces in the upcoming series.

Keep an eye on Pavin Smith in the upcoming series. The 28-year-old was in top form against the Tacoma Rainiers, launching two home runs with eight RBI in the series. His impressive performance in May, hitting .375/.447/.625 with four extra-base hits, sets high expectations for his performance against El Paso next week.

Reno will return to Greater Nevada Field on August 20 to host the Las Vegas Aviators, the Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
