WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (June 23, 2018) - Behind a go-ahead, three-run blast from Micker Adolfo and a career-high 11 strikeouts from Jimmy Lambert, the Dash edged the Wood Ducks 5-3 in front of 5,683 fans at BB&T Ballpark on Saturday.
Winston-Salem (3-0, 44-29) took advantage of defensive miscues from Down East (0-3, 35-38) to plate a run in the bottom of the first against Emerson Martinez (4-7). After Luis González struck out swinging, he reached first base on a wild pitch. Then, Luis Robert hit a slow roller to second base, and Anderson Tejeda's throw pulled Andetty Cordero off the bag, resulting in an error and runners on first and second for the Dash. Gavin Sheets came through later in the inning with an RBI single to give the Dash a 1-0 lead.

The Wood Ducks tied the game at one in the third inning, when Eric Jenkins hit a two-out, solo home run off of Lambert (5-7). Down East took the lead on another two-out home run in the fourth inning, a two-run shot off the bat of Brendon Davis to make it 3-1.
The Dash had a chance to respond in the bottom of the fouth, putting runners on second and third with nobody out. But Martinez retired the next three batters - two with strikeouts - to get out of the jam.
Winston-Salem created another opportunity in the fifth. After Mitch Roman singled to start the inning, Gonzalez walked. Martinez struck out the next two batters to establish a new career-high with 10 strikeouts. Then, with Micker Adolfo at the plate, Roman and Gonzalez executed a double steal to move into scoring position. On the next pitch, Adolfo clobbered Martinez's offering over the centerfield fence for a three-run home run to give Winston-Salem a 4-3 lead. The homer is Adolfo's ninth of the season, tying him for the team lead.
After allowing the home run to Davis, Lambert dominated the Wood Ducks lineup. He retired 13 consecutive batters to finish his afternoon, striking out seven of them. The right-hander allowed just three runs and did not issue a walk, tying a career high with eight innings pitched.
The Dash tacked on to their lead in the sixth. First, Ti'Quan Forbes was hit by a pitch and moved to second on an infield single from Zach Remillard. Then, with one out, Roman punched an single into right field to bring home Forbes.
Roman finished the game 2-for-3 with two singles, a stolen base, a run scored, and an RBI. He extends his hitting streak to six games.
Tyler Johnson, who is rated by MLB Pipeline as the 25th-best propsect in the White Sox system, tossed a perfect ninth inning to earn a save in his High-A debut.
