African American Heritage Night set for August 5
CHARLESTON, W. Va. (July 29, 2019) - The West Virginia Power, in conjunction with Multifest - Charleston's 30-year celebration of diversity and multicultural music, art and food - and Black Sheep Burrito & Brews, will host the first-ever African American Heritage Night at a sports event in West Virginia's capital city.

(July 29, 2019) - The West Virginia Power, in conjunction with Multifest - Charleston's 30-year celebration of diversity and multicultural music, art and food - and Black Sheep Burrito & Brews, will host the first-ever African American Heritage Night at a sports event in West Virginia's capital city. The event, set for Monday, August 5, will be a (baseball) Diamond Anniversary celebration to culminate Multifest's 30th season, which will begin in and around Haddad Riverfront Park on Friday, August 2.
The evening at Appalachian Power Park will include a talent showcase of young performers from within the community, a pregame concert headlined by rising Hip Hop/R&B stars Gabby & Madi, recognition of the strong African American heritage from the region's baseball history and throughout the greater Charleston area and a celebration of community All-Stars, including Multifest President/former Charleston Police Chief Dallas Staples. .
"Black Sheep Burrito & Brews' sponsorship allows us to offer free tickets through several sponsors and groups in and around Charleston and work towards building stronger connections with people across generations throughout our community," said Power General Manager Jeremy Taylor. "As the Power continues our All-Star season, we will also pay tribute to several All Stars within our community who are making Charleston a better place to be for generations to come."
Vouchers for free general admission tickets are available from sponsors of the special event and several community groups. The first 500 younger fans redeeming those vouchers at the Power Box Office will receive a $3.00 coupon for food during Family Buck Night, when hot dogs, popcorn and 12-ounce soft drinks cost just $1.00 each.
"This year's 30th anniversary of Multifest is about more than the three days and nights of great music and fun in and around Haddad Riverfront Park," said Charleston City Councilwoman Jennifer Pharr, who has been instrumental in the development of African American Heritage Night. "In addition to a new celebration at the ballpark Monday evening, we are also working with several people and groups on projects to keep young people, local businesses, emerging artists and others in the Charleston area engaged to create new opportunities for arts, culture and fun activities and to meet the needs of people in our community."
Kanawha Valley Regional Transportation Authority (KRT) will also be running a special free trolley shuttle to and from the ballpark from several locations on the West Side between 4:30 and 10 p.m.
Gates will open on Monday, August 5, at 5:30 p.m. for the pregame concert. A pregame on-field ceremony will begin at 6:40 p.m., with the Power's game against the Rome Braves getting underway at 7:05 p.m.

West Virginia opens up its final multi-series homestand of the 2019 season Wednesday, July 31, with the first game of a three-game series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Some highlights of the homestand include Purple Power Night on Wednesday, CAMC Night on Friday, August 2, Back to School Night on Saturday, August 3. The Power will sport special 'Hot Shot' jerseys on Friday that will be auctioned off with proceeds going to the CAMC Foundation and benefiting local causes in the Kanawha Valley.
