Abreu -- who yielded a run on four hits in five frames Wednesday -- got into a couple jams early with Danny Mendick (White Sox) singling and Logan Hill (Pirates) walking in the first inning and Tyler Krieger (Indians) doubling to lead off the third. But both times, he pitched himself out of trouble.
A pesky shoulder injury put Abreu on the disabled list twice this season, limiting him to 49 innings across Class A Charleston and Class A Advanced Tampa, plus 4 1/3 rehab innings with the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Yankees. Overall, the 22-year-old went 2-3 with a 3.38 ERA, 61 strikeouts and 18 walks.
Aramis Garcia put his team on the board with an RBI single in the first, but the Scorpions busted the game open late with a nine-run ninth. The Giants No. 8 prospect plated another run while New York's No. 17 prospect Thairo Estrada, Angels No. 20 prospectTroy Montgomery and Taylor Sparks (Reds) tallied two RBIs apiece.
Logan Hill (Pirates) lofted a sacrifice fly in the seventh for the Desert Dogs' only run.
