Beloit received an offensive jolt with five runs in the second inning along with seven superb innings from starter Xavier Altamirano in Thursday's 8-0 shutout win at Kane County. The Snappers picked up their 50th win of the year in the three-hit blanking as compared to earning win number 50 on August 12 last season. The Snappers are now 35-7 when they score at least five runs.
JaVon Shelby and Trace Loehr knocked home two each on back-to-back knocks in the second inning. Shelby singled and Loehr tripled before Eric Mariñez put up a fifth run in the second with a single of his own. The Snappers went back to the well for more runs in the fifth on a two-run single by Miguel Mercedes to make it a 7-0 game and again in the seventh with a Jesus Lopez RBI double. Josh Vidales, Mercedes, and Marinez all ended the night with two hits.
Altamirano faced the minimum into the fifth inning and sat down thirteen straight batters without the aid of a strikeout. He did not record his first strikeout until he struck out four Cougars in a row to end the sixth and start the seventh. With the winning decision, Altamirano joins Matt Milburn as the only pitchers to win three straight starts. Joe Camacho and John Gorman finished the shutout with a scoreless inning apiece. Kane County did not have a single baserunner reach second base until the ninth inning.
