Fresno, CA (Tuesday, April 19) – The Fresno Grizzlies (7-3) improved to 4-0 at home with a 6-5 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm (5-5) Tuesday night from Chukchansi Park. This series will be the only regular season meeting between the two clubs and the first trip ever for Lake Elsinore to downtown Fresno.
The Grizzlies clawed ahead 3-0 after scoring in the second and third innings. Juan Guerrero smacked a double off the left field wall, plating Warming Bernabel. In the third, Adael Amador raked a solo shot to right field, his second longball of his 2022 campaign. Finally, Bernabel relished a sacrifice fly to center.
The Storm sprinkled home four runs over the next three frames to grab a one-run advantage. Marcos Castanon laced a single to left, adding Justin Farmer. Then in the fifth, Jackson Merrill tallied two RBI on a single to right. A wild pitch in the sixth pushed Lake Elsinore out in front.
In the bottom half of the sixth, Fresno notched a trio of runs thanks to a Guerrero single, wild pitch and sacrifice fly by Amador. The offense by both teams ended in the seventh on a caught stealing play by the Storm offense. With the score at 6-5, the Grizzlies brought in Juan Mejia (hold) and Joel Condreay (save, 1) to shut the door on Lake Elsinore. The duo struck out five of their six total outs with Condreay punching out the last two batters of the contest.
Grizzlies starter Cullen Kafka hurled four innings and did not factor in the decision. Storm righty Levi Thomas chucked five frames of three-run ball. Fresno reliever Ever Moya (1-0) enjoyed the victory after one and one-third innings of work while Ruben Galindo (0-2) suffered the defeat. The clubs are back in action tomorrow night from Chukchansi Park.
