Frisco RoughRdiers (56-41) | Amarillo Sod Poodles (44-53)
Amarillo, Texas — The Pointy Boots de Amarillo overpowered the Frisco RoughRiders en route to a 15-1 win on Wednesday night. Amarillo had five home runs on 19 total hits in the victory.
One night after seeing Frisco pummel the baseball to a tune of a season-high six home runs, Amarillo got in on the fun tonight. Frisco starter Noah Bremer hit the leadoff man and then walked Geraldo Perdomo. A catcher interference loaded the bases prior to Buddy Kennedy's RBI single to give Amarillo the early lead and keep the bases loaded. A sacrifice fly plated another run but also resulted in a double play as Garrett was doubled off second base. Eduardo Diaz extended the Pointy Boots lead with his 17th home run of the year, putting Amarillo up 4-0 after the bottom of the first.
Amarillo added to it in the bottom of the second. Perdomo singled with one out and then advanced into scoring position on a balk. Garrett doubled into the gap in left-center, easily scoring Perdomo. Diaz was back at it in the bottom of the third, belting his second homer in as many plate appearances to lead off the inning.
Back-to-back singles to lead off the bottom of fourth both scored when D-backs' No. 19 rated prospect Dominic Fletcher hit a two-RBI triple. Andy Yerzy picked up his first Double-A hit and RBI when he singled into right field, scoring Fletcher and extending the lead to 9-0 through the first four frames.
The Amarillo hits kept coming in the sixth frame. Yerzy added to his night, hitting his first Double-A home run with one out in the inning. His three-run shot was the first of three home runs in the inning for Amarillo. Ryder Jones gave Amarillo back-to-back home runs for the first time this season at home and third time overall in 2021. It was the first time Amarillo hitters had hit back-to-back home runs since Fletcher and Garrett did it on June 26th against Corpus Christi. Perdomo added his third home run of the season to cap the six-run sixth as Amarillo led 15-0.
The offense overshadowed what was a dominant night on the hill for Brandon Pfaadt. Making his home debut and just second Double-A start, Pfaadt spun seven scoreless frames for Amarillo allowing just three hits with as many strikeouts. The D-backs' No. 26 rated prospect is at his third level in his first professional season since being drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 5th round of the 2020 MLB draft. The right-hander currently leads the D-backs' farm system in innings pitched with 110.2 and overtook the system lead in strikeouts with 136 on the season. His first Double-A win gives him eight on the year and places him in a tie for the most in the system with former Amarillo pitcher Luis Frias who is now in Triple-A.
Frisco ended the shutout bid with a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning. Frisco catcher Jordan Procyshen pitched two scoreless innings for the RoughRiders. They were two of only three scoreless innings for Amarillo in the game.
Game three of this series continues tomorrow with LHP Tommy Henry taking the bump for Amarillo. The D-backs' No. 16 rated prospect is 1-6 with a 5.16 ERA. He leads the Amarillo pitching staff with 19 starts so far this season. He also ranks top 10 in the farm system in innings pitched and strikeouts. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 Pm with gates opening at 6:05 PM.
