Amarillo, Texas (April 30, 2024) – Yesterday, Minor League Baseball announced their Players and Pitchers of the Week for April 22-28. Amarillo swept the Texas League weekly honors with INF Deyvison De Los Santos earning Player of the Week and RHP Dylan File being named Pitcher of the Week. The two are the first Amarillo Sod Poodles players to win Texas League weekly honors in 2024.
De Los Santos, the D-backs' no. 14-rated prospect had a dominant week against the Frisco RoughRiders, capping it off with a 4-for-5 day at the plate on Sunday where he had a pair of home runs and drove in all six Amarillo runs. He ended the week in Frisco hitting .542 (13-for-24) with three homers, a double, nine RBI, two walks, and five runs scored. De Los Santos played in all six games and had an OPS of 1.551. The 20-year-old infield prospect led the Texas League in AVG, hits, and OPS for the week. He also finished T-1st in home runs and was T-2nd in RBI. His multi-HR effort on Sunday was the second of his professional career while his six RBI set a new single-game career high. Through the first 20 games of the 2024 season, De Los Santos leads the Texas League in hits (32), HR (7), RBI (18), XBH (11), total bases (57), and SLG (.716). His season AVG of .395 is the second-best as are his OPS (1.165) and runs scored (18). His 32 hits are the most in all Double-A through the first 21 games of the season. This is his second career Player of the Week award after taking home Northwest League Player of the Week honors on July 31, 2022, when he was with High-A Hillsboro.
File turned in a quality start on Saturday, April 27, Amarillo’s first of the season. The right-hander went 7.0 IP and allowed just three hits and an earned run while striking out four Frisco RoughRiders. He retired each of the first 12 batters he faced to begin the game. The seven innings were the most by an Amarillo starter so far this year, topping the 5.2 IP he gave the Sod Poodles in his prior start. This is File’s first Pitcher of the Week award since earning Carolina League Pitcher of the Week on April 28, 2019, when he was with the Carolina Mudcats in the Milwaukee Brewers organization. File was originally selected by the Brewers in the 21st round of the 2017 MLB Draft out of Dixie State College in Utah. He spent his first five seasons in the Brewers organization and led their farm system in wins (33), strikeouts (387), starts (81), and innings pitched (445.1) from 2018-2022. After a season cut short due to injury in the Korea Baseball Organization, the Arizona Diamondbacks signed File to a minor league contract on February 8, 2024.
