Lake Elsinore, CA (Tuesday, July 27) – In their first-ever meeting, the Fresno Grizzlies (48-25) lost a 3-2 pitcher’s duel to the Lake Elsinore Storm (33-40) Tuesday evening from “The Diamond.” Fresno dropped their third consecutive contest and saw their nine-game road-win streak come to an end. The Grizzlies are now 17-6 in July and 34-5 when allowing three runs or less.
Fresno starter Anderson Amarista (2-2) took a tough-luck decision despite a season-high six innings. He allowed three earned runs on five hits while fanning six. Anderson Pilar followed Amarista with two flawless frames. On the other side, Lake Elsinore righty Ruben Galindo chucked four innings of two-run ball. He gave way to Hazahel Quijada (2-0), who earned the win after a pair of clean frames. Duilio Ochoa (hold, 2) and Chase Walter (save, 2) wrapped up the final three innings, combining for a quartet of punchouts.
In the bottom of the second, the Storm grabbed an early advantage when Jarryd Dale doubled home Matthew Acosta. Then, a double play netted the second run. The Grizzlies would even the game after an Eddy Diaz RBI double and Grant Lavigne RBI single. The base hits plated Julio Carreras (2-for-3) and Ezequiel Tovar (1-for-4). In the bottom of the fourth, Lake Elsinore would score the eventual game-winner on an Angel Solarte RBI two-bagger. Drew Romo had two hits for Fresno, extending his hit streak to seven games. The multi-hit affair would tie his personal best streak. Both squads continue the six-game series tomorrow night from Lake Elsinore.
