ASHEVILLE- The Asheville Tourists defeated the Hickory Crawdads 7-3 on Thursday night behind another great pitching performance and a balanced offensive attack. Asheville’s Spencer Arrighetti tossed five innings and earned his third win of the season. Arrighetti became the first Tourists pitcher in 2022 to record double-digit strikeouts in a game.
Spencer had to overcome a tough start. The Crawdads hit a two-run Home Run with no outs in the top of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. Arrighetti then sat down 15 of the next 17 batters he faced; ten of which came via the strikeout.
Asheville stole a run in the bottom of the second and took the lead with three runs in the fourth. C.J. Stubbs, Luis Santana, and Quincy Hamilton all drove in runs during the big inning. Colin Barber extended the lead to 6-2 with a two-run Home Run to centerfield in the fifth. Both teams plated a run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring.
Juan Pablo Lopez made his first appearance since April 24 and the left-hander was very impressive. Lopez struck out five in his three innings of work and surrendered just two hits. Jose Betances pitched a scoreless ninth to secure the win.
Hamilton, Barber, and Stubbs all finished with multiple hits in the contest. The Tourists pounded out 12 hits in the game and limited the Crawdads to only six. One night after walking a season-high 14 batters, Asheville’s pitching staff allowed only two.
Game Four of this six-game series is set for 6:35pm ET Friday night.
