ASHEVILLE- The Asheville Tourists downed the Winston-Salem Dash 5-4 on Thursday night in a contest that was close throughout. The Tourists took the lead in the bottom of the sixth and held the Dash without a run the rest of the way.
Asheville’s bullpen combination of Kyle Gruller and Spencer Arrighetti combined to pitch four scoreless innings. Gruller earned the win and Arrighetti the save. Starting pitcher Ryan Gusto limited the Dash to six hits in five quality innings of work.
Offensively, Asheville took advantage of their opportunities. The Tourists scored twice in the bottom of the third on an RBI groundout by Michael Sandle and a run-scoring double off the bat of JC Correa. Luis Guerrero launched his sixth Home Run of the season in the fourth; a solo blast down the left field line.
The Dash used a trio of solo Home Runs in the fifth to take a brief 4-3 lead. In the bottom of the frame, Zach Daniels crossed the plate on Correa’s second RBI double of the game. The Tourists then plated the go-ahead run on a C.J. Stubbs RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
The Tourists moved to 5-3 in one-run games played at home this season and took a two-games-to-one lead in the current series. Both teams are back in action on Friday night with the first pitch slated for 6:35pm ET.
