DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Cubs (59-42) dropped the opener to the Toledo Mud Hens (43-59) by a score of 8-2, Tuesday at Principal Park.

Toledo got out to an early lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Tyler Nevin, bringing around Parker Meadows who singled to start the game. One run was all the Mud Hens would score against Caleb Kilian, who recorded a quality start.

He allowed just the one earned run on five hits and one walk, striking out six over 6.0 innings pitched. Kilian was in line for the win when Iowa’s offense provided some run support in the sixth.

They scored two runs on one swing of the bat, as Miles Mastrobuoni clubbed a two-run home run to give Iowa a 2-1 lead. The lead didn’t last long, as Grant Witherspoon and Johan Camargo hit back-to-back solo home runs, giving the Mud Hens a one-run lead right back.

An RBI single from Camargo in the eighth grew Toledo’s lead to 4-2 and they weren’t done there. The Mud Hens scored four runs in the ninth, highlighted by a bases clearing triple from Wenceel Perez.

Up 8-2, Miguel Diaz entered the game in the ninth inning, allowing one hit while striking out two in a scoreless ninth.
