PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of June 25th through July 1st.

Trenton Thunder shortstop Abiatal Avelino has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of June 25th-July 1st. The 23-year old hit .524 (11-for-21) with one double, two home runs, five RBIs, eight runs scored, two stolen bases, four walks, and a .857 slugging percentage in six games last week. Avelino, who is a native of San Pedro De Macoris, Dominican Republic, reached base at least once in all six games he played in played in last week and had multiple hits in three of those games, including going 4-for-4 with one double, four runs scored, and two stolen bases in Trenton's 8-5 win at Binghamton on Wednesday. The 5'11", 195 lb. slugger tied for the league lead in hits (11) last week and also finished ranked among the weekly league leaders in batting average (.524-2nd), runs scored (8-2nd), on-base percentage (.577-2nd), slugging percentage (.857-2nd), OPS (1.434-2nd), total bases (18-tied 4th), home runs (2-tied 5th), stolen baes (2-tied 5th), and walks (4-tied 8th). Abiatal, who is hitting .343 with nine home runs, 26 RBIs, 30 runs scored, and 15 stolen bases in 45 games for the Thunder this season, was signed by the New York Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on December 26, 2011.

Michael King, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Trenton Thunder, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of June 25th-July 1st. The 6'3", 210 lb. hurler started one game for the Thunder last week and had a record of 1-0 with 11 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. King, who is a native of Rochester, New York, made his lone start of the week on Saturday night against the visiting New Hampshire Fisher Cats and tossed a complete game in Trenton's 6-0 victory. He gave up just three hits and did not walk a batter while tying a career-high with 11 strikeouts over nine innings. The 23-year old ranked first among all Eastern League pitchers in WHIP (0.33) last week and tied for the lead in ERA (0.00), complete games (1), and shutouts (1). He also ranked among the weekly league leaders in wins (1-tied 2nd), strikeouts (11-tied 3rd), and batting average against (.103-4th). Michael, who has a record of 2-1 with 42 strikeouts and a 1.91 ERA in seven games for the Thunder since being promoted from Class-A Tampa on May 19th, was acquired by the New York Yankees in a trade from the Miami Marlins on November 20, 2017. He was originally selected by the Marlins in the 12th round of the 2016 draft out of Boston College.
