Orioles' Wilkerson suspended 50 games

It's been a roller coaster of a week for Steve Wilkerson, and it's only Tuesday.
The Orioles infield prospect received a 50-game suspension after testing positive for amphetamine -- a violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program -- just one day after he was named to the Arizona Fall League's Top Prospects Team.

Wilkerson hit .305/.375/.423 with career highs of eight homers and 45 RBIs this season across Class A Advanced Frederick and Double-A Bowie en route to being named an Organization All-Star. The 25-year-old split most of his time between third base and second this year, but also took reps at first, short and in right field.
In the AFL, Wilkerson kept the momentum going as he hit .317 with nine extra-base hits and 10 RBIs in 23 games. The Clemson product led the league with five triples and ranked fourth with a .396 on-base percentage.
Wilkerson had been considered a contender for a utility spot with Baltimore next season. Since he is currently on the Triple-A Norfolk roster, his suspension will begin at the start of the Tides' 2018 campaign.
The Commissioner's Office has suspended 87 players this year for violations of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
