MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (April 10, 2018) - Dash right-hander Jimmy Lambert tossed five impressive innings, and outfielder Luis Basabe reached base four times as Winston-Salem defeated the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 6-4 on Tuesday night at TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.
Lambert (1-0), who made 14 starts with the Dash (3-3) in 2017, went five innings, allowing just one hit and one unearned run in his season debut. A Midseason All-Star with Low-A Kannapolis last season, Lambert registered four strikeouts while walking two batters.

Basabe got the offense rolling in the first with a one-out triple against Myrtle Beach starter Matt Swarmer (0-1). Two batters later, Gavin Sheets stroked an RBI single to left to give Winston-Salem a 1-0 edge. Sheets tied a career-best with three hits on Tuesday, good for his second multi-hit game with the Dash.
In the third, Basabe, who is rated by MLB Pipeline as the White Sox 13th-best prospect, came up with Joel Booker on second and two outs. Up 2-0 in the count, Basabe smacked an RBI single to right to make it a 2-0 contest.
The Pelicans (1-5) responded with their lone run off Lambert in the third, but Basabe completed his three-hit effort in the fifth with another RBI single to bring home Booker. The 21-year-old drew a walk in the eighth before finally being retired in the ninth.
Leading 3-1 in the eighth, Micker Adolfo and Yermin Mercedes hit back-to-back RBI doubles to give the Dash a 5-1 advantage. Kyle Kubat relieved Lambert and threw two scoreless innings of middle relief, but Myrtle Beach was not done yet. With two on and one out in the eighth, Daniel Spingola drilled a three-run homer to right-center against José Ruiz to cut the deficit to one.
However, Booker would cap the scoring in the ninth with a blast of his own, a solo shot to left off Casey Bloomquist. Booker finished the night 3-for-4 with a career-high tying three runs scored.
The Pelicans put a runner on in the final frame, but Dash right-hander Matt Foster locked down the save with a scoreless ninth. Foster has now thrown 3.1 scoreless innings to start off his 2018 campaign.
Winston-Salem wraps up its series against the Pelicans on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.
