Bass relinquished two straight walks in the first inning, but 'Caps catcher Joey Morgan cut down a Captains baserunner at third base to end the threat. Only two more Captains base runners reached over the next four innings off Bass. A Dylan Rosa RBI-double in the first inning and a Rey Rivera run-producing single in the fourth provided West Michigan a 2-0 advantage over Captains starter Kirk McCarty. The lead improved to 6-0 as Colby Bortles highlighted a four-run fifth with a bases-loaded double which plated three runs. Ray Rivera followed with an RBI-single of his own.
Bass gave up a solid single by Austen Wade in the seventh inning to break up the no-hit bid. Three more hits chased him from the game, but Wladimir Pinto came on in relief and dazzled the Captains in 2.2 of scoreless relief work. Bass (3-2) went 6.1 innings, gave up four hits, two earned runs and struck out three to notch his first win since April 22. Five different Whitecaps hitters recorded multi-hit games as part of twelve hits overall. The win broke a two-game skid for the Whitecaps who moved to 21-19 in the 2018 campaign. Lake County fell to 19-22 overall as McCarty (1-3) lasted only 4.2 innings in the loss.
