PENSACOLA, Fla. (May 20, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, shut out the Pensacola Blue Wahoos 2-0 in a rain-shortened game Saturday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
After keeping Pensacola (24-19) off the board for six innings in his first Double-A start April 24, Grayson Long (2-2) tossed five more scoreless frames Saturday. He allowed just two hits and struck out five batters. Long opened the game by setting down the first eight batters, capping a stretch of 25 straight Pensacola batters retired by BayBears (18-25) pitching going back to the previous game.
On the other side of the pitchers' duel, Luis Castillo (2-2) allowed just one run in seven innings of work. Zach Gibbons doubled on the first pitch of the game and scored two batters later on a David Fletcher sacrifice fly.
For the second straight night, Mobile relievers held the Blue Wahoos scoreless and hitless. Two runners reached against Tyler Warmoth on a walk and an error, but he was able to escape the jam. Abel De Los Santos pitched the next two innings, with just one runner reaching on an error.
Tim Arakawa scored a run on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth, before the inning was interrupted by a rain delay with two outs. Play was unable to resume due to rain, and Mobile was awarded the 2-0 victory.
Saturday marked the fifth shutout win for the BayBears and the third in the month of May. It was also the second time Mobile blanked Pensacola this season.
Forrestt Allday went 1-for-4 with a single in the first inning, extending his on-base streak to 25 games.
