BayBears blank Braves for fourth shutout win of season

PEARL, Miss. (May 11, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, earned a 6-0 shutout victory and held the Mississippi Braves to just four hits Thursday night at Trustmark Park.
In his first game back from the disabled list, Osmer Morales only gave up one hit, a leadoff single in the first. He walked two batters and struck out six in 4 1/3 innings. Abel De Los Santos (1-1), Tyler Warmoth , and Ivan Hernandez combined to preserve the shutout, the fourth of the season for the BayBears (14-20).
After three scoreless frames, the BayBears jumped on Mississippi starter Max Fried (2-4), tagging him for four runs on five hits in the fourth. Josè Briceño , Alberto Triunfel , and Zach Gibbons had RBI singles, and Wade Wass hit a sacrifice fly. Forrestt Allday also extended his on-base streak to 17 games with a fourth-inning single and a run scored.
The BayBears added two more runs in the ninth, including a second RBI single for Gibbons. He finished the game 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI. David Fletcher also recorded his third consecutive multi-hit game, going 2-for-5.
The BayBears wrap up the five-game road series Friday at 7:00 p.m. CT against Mississippi. Right-hander Jake Jewell (1-1, 6.43 ERA) is slated to make the start against righty Mike Soroka (2-3, 3.45 ERA) for the Braves.
