CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (June 3, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, plated a run in the top of the ninth but were defeated 3-1 by the Chattanooga Lookouts Monday night at AT&T Field.
Matt Ball (1-3) allowed just two unearned runs on three hits, all coming in the bottom of the first. Ball struck out a season-high eight batters in 4 1/3 innings. The BayBears (21-35) pitching staff fanned 14 in the game and did not issue a walk.
Bo Way got the first Mobile hit against Tejay Antone (7-3) with one out in the seventh. Antone allowed just one hit in eight scoreless innings, and he matched his season-high with seven strikeouts. Way also drove in Jahmai Jones with a single in the ninth to break up the shutout.
A costly error in the first inning led to a pair of Chattanooga (31-25) runs on a two-out Mitch Nay single. Nay added a run of insurance with another RBI single in the eighth, and he has driven in six runs in the first two games of the series.
Angels top prospect Jo Adell went 0-for-4 in his return to the BayBears.
The BayBears continue the five-game road series against Chattanooga Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Luis Madero (3-2, 2.90 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against southpaw Packy Naughton (1-1, 4.50 ERA) for the Lookouts.
