MOBILE, Ala. (May 5, 2018) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, fell behind early and were never able to climb back in an 11-5 loss to the Chattanooga Lookouts Saturday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Jose Suarez (1-1) lasted just 2 1/3 innings and gave up four runs on seven hits with three walks. The bullpen was tagged for seven runs on seven hits and walked six batters over the final 5 2/3 innings.
For the second straight night, Brennon Lund had a pair of hits. He drove in two runs with a fifth-inning double and scored twice. Matt Thaiss added a two-run homer in the seventh, his fourth long ball of the season. Taylor Ward recorded his team-high 12th multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with an RBI double in the fifth.
However, the BayBears (12-16) fell behind early and never led in the game. Chattanooga (17-12) plated two runs in the first and third, and they scored three in the fifth and seventh. LaMonte Wade Jr hit his second home run of the series, a three-run shot in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Six of the nine players in the Lookouts' starting lineup had a multi-hit game.
Randy LeBlanc (4-1) earned the win, tossing four scoreless frames before surrendering three runs in the fifth. LeBlanc, Williams Ramirez, and Todd Van Steensel combined to strike out at least one Mobile batter in all nine innings, with 11 in total.
Outfielder Bo Way pitched the ninth inning for the BayBears and gave up one run on two hits.
The BayBears wrap up the five-game home series against Chattanooga Sunday at 2:05 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Jesus Castillo (2-2, 3.70 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against southpaw Anthony Marzi (0-0, -.-- ERA) for the Lookouts.
