MOBILE, Ala. (July 22, 2018) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, got on the board first but dropped the series finale to the Chattanooga Lookouts 9-4 Sunday evening at Hank Aaron Stadium.
The BayBears (48-49 overall, 11-18 second half) plated the first run of the game on a Riley Unroe single off Lewis Thorpe (5-4) in the second. However, Chattanooga (48-51, 12-18) responded with five runs off Joe Gatto (3-4) in the top of the third.
Zander Wiel hit a three-run homer to put the Lookouts ahead for good. It was his third long ball of the series and extended his on-base streak to 20 games.
Jose Rojas ' on-base streak also stayed alive, courtesy of a leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth. Rojas has reached safely in 19 straight games, the second-longest active streak in the Southern League behind Wiel's.
Thorpe recorded a quality start, giving up two runs on four hits with five strikeouts in six innings pitched. His other run allowed came on a Brendon Sanger homer in the fifth.
With Sunday's loss, the BayBears have now been swept in back-to-back series. The 10-game losing streak is the third in team history and first since 2009.
