MOBILE, Ala. (June 25, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, were defeated by a narrow 2-1 margin in the fourth game of the series Sunday evening at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Grayson Long gave up just one run on four hits in six innings pitched. Despite the quality start, he did not factor in the decision.
After the BayBears (33-40 overall, 3-1 second half) made the score 1-1 on Bo Way 's sacrifice fly in the third, the game remained tied until the top of the ninth. Tennessee (37-36, 1-3) loaded the bases against Conor Lillis-White (0-2), and then pinch hitter Ian Rice drew a walk to plate the go-ahead run. Mobile left the tying run on third base in the bottom of the ninth, as Dillon Maples notched his second Double-A save.
Chicago Cubs pitcher Brett Anderson allowed one run on five hits in a four-inning rehab start. He threw 51 pitches, 37 strikes, in his first outing since May 6.
James Pugliese, Justin Hancock (1-2), and Dillon Maples kept the BayBears off the board for the final five innings.
The BayBears wrap up the five-game home series against Tennessee Monday at 6:35 p.m. CT. Right-handed pitcher Alex Klonowski (4-2, 2.40 ERA) is slated to make the start against righty Jen-Ho Tseng (6-2, 2.85 ERA) for the Smokies.
