MOBILE, Ala. (May 2, 2018) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, erased a six-run deficit but dropped the series opener 7-6 to the Chattanooga Lookouts in 10 innings Wednesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium Stadium.
The BayBears (12-13) were trailing 6-0 in the bottom of the sixth, when Riley Unroe ignited the comeback with a two-run triple. He scored on a Brennon Lund groundout to cut Chattanooga's lead to 6-3. Taylor Ward led off the seventh with a home run to left field, his third of the season. Brendon Sanger singled and scored in the eighth.
In the bottom of the ninth, trailing 6-5, Hutton Moyer led off the inning on a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. Connor Justus followed with a bloop single over the head of the second baseman to plate Moyer and tie the game.
LaMonte Wade Jr scored the game-winning run for the Lookouts (14-12) on a sacrifice fly in the 10th against Matt Custred (0-2). Todd Van Steensel (4-1), who blew the save in the ninth, recorded a strikeout and induced a game-ending double play with runners on the corners.
The BayBears continue the five-game home series against Chattanooga Thursday at 6:35 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Jose Rodriguez (1-2, 2.61 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Kohl Stewart (2-1, 5.82 ERA) for the Lookouts.
