JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (June 30, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, dropped a pair of games to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, 6-3 in the completion of Thursday's game and 2-1 in Friday's regularly-scheduled game, at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
GAME 1:
Leading 1-0 in the fifth inning when the first game of the night resumed, following a 3-hour and 3-minute rain delay, the BayBears added another tally in the sixth. Zach Houchins drove in his second run of the game, bringing home David Fletcher again on an RBI single off Tyler Higgins (2-3).
However, Jacksonville scored six straight runs over the next three frames, including four in the bottom of the seventh against Michael Dimock (1-2). Braxton Lee gave the Jumbo Shrimp the lead with a two-run single, one of his four hits in the game. Two batters later, Brian Anderson put the game out of reach with a two-run homer to center field.
Jordan Serena hit his first Double-A home run in the top of the ninth, but Clayton Mortensen retired the final three batters of the game.
Jaime Barria pitched four scoreless innings and gave up just two hits before the game was delayed and ultimately suspended Thursday.
GAME 2:
For the third time in the series, the BayBears (33-44 overall, 3-5 second half) scored the first run of the game. Francisco Arcia began the top of the third with a double and later scored on a wild pitch.
However, Jacksonville (35-43, 5-3) starter Mike Kickham (5-4) settled in after giving up the run and pitched a complete game, allowing just one hit over the final three frames. Mobile put two runners on base with two outs in the ninth, but Kickham stayed in and recorded the final out.
Osmer Morales (3-3) surrendered just four hits as well, but one was a two-run homer by Taylor Ard in the bottom of the fifth. Morales matched his season-high with seven strikeouts in the 2-1 loss.
