BILOXI, Miss. (August 22, 2017) - Despite jumping out to a four-run lead, the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, fell to the Biloxi Shuckers 6-5 Tuesday night at MGM Park.
A pair of sacrifice flies in the first and third innings put the BayBears (59-67 overall, 29-28 second half) in front 2-0. Zach Houchins added to the lead with a two-run homer to cap off the scoring in a three-run third. It was his team-high 12th long ball of the season.
The Shuckers (64-60, 28-27) plated two runs in the bottom of third to cut Mobile's lead in half. Jhondaniel Medina pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to preserve the 4-2 advantage.
However, Biloxi scored three two-out runs in the seventh against Kevin Grendell (0-1) to take the lead. Blake Allemand hit a game-tying two-run homer, and Angel Ortega hit a go-ahead RBI double. Allemand and Ortega both finished the game with three hits. Tyrone Taylor came home on a wild pitch in the eighth to add a run of insurance.
The first three batters reached in the top of the ninth, including a Bo Way RBI single to trim the Biloxi lead to 6-5. Matt Ramsey got three straight outs with runners on second and third, striking out the final two batters to earn his league-high 25th save.
Brennon Lund went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Lund has eight multi-hit games in his first 16 starts with the BayBears.
The BayBears continue the five-game road series against Biloxi Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. CT. Right-handed pitcher Grayson Long (7-6, 2.79 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Freddy Peralta (1-4, 2.45 ERA) for the Shuckers.
