MOBILE, Ala. (May 13, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, dropped both games of a doubleheader Monday night at Hank Aaron Stadium against the Jackson Generals, falling 5-1 in game one and 11-8 in game two.
GAME ONE:
Jesus Castillo gave up just one run in five innings pitched, but the BayBears offense provided just one run of support. Mobile left five runners on base and went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. The lone Mobile run came on a Julian Leon sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first.
With the game tied 1-1 through six innings, former BayBear Jamie Westbrook delivered a three-run homer for the Generals. It was his fourth home run at Hank Aaron Stadium in the past three seasons with Jackson.
Riley Smith (2-3) pitched a complete game, allowing the one first-inning run on six hits with four strikeouts.
Kaleb Cowart (1-1) struck out four straight batters but departed after allowing a pair of walks in the seventh.
GAME TWO:
After going 11 consecutive innings without scoring and falling behind 10-0 in the middle of the sixth, the BayBears (15-22) erupted with eight runs in the final two frames.
Jhoan Urena drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the sixth to get Mobile on the board. Bo Way followed with a two-run double, and Urena scored on a double play to cut Jackson's lead to 10-4.
Trailing 11-4 in the seventh, the BayBears loaded the bases with no outs for the second straight inning. Jack Kruger plated a run with a groundout, Connor Justus hit a two-run single with two outs, and Brendon Sanger hit an RBI double off former BayBear Damien Magnifico. With the tying run at the plate, Magnifico induced a groundout to end the game.
Jason Alexander (1-1) gave up five runs, four earned, in the first three frames and took the loss in a four-inning start. The Generals (20-16) added five more runs in the top of the sixth and one in the seventh against a trio of BayBears relievers.
