PENSACOLA, Fla. (May 22, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, were leading through three innings but ended up taking a 9-1 loss to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in the series finale Monday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
Jake Jewell (2-3) began the game by retiring the first 10 batters he faced. The BayBears (19-26) provided a run of support in the top of the third, as Andrew Daniel tripled and then swiped home on a delayed double-steal. However, Pensacola (25-20) plated runs in each of the next five frames.
Jewell gave up three home runs for just the second time in his career. Blake Trahan, Tyler Goeddel and Brian O'Grady went deep in the fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively. Aristides Aquino and Eric Jagielo added back-to-back homers off Adam Hofacket in the eighth.
Deck McGuire (4-2) earned his fourth win of the season. He allowed one run on seven hits with six strikeouts in seven innings.
Forrestt Allday went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks, extending his on-base streak to 25 games.
Following an off day Tuesday, the BayBears begin a five-game home series against the Birmingham Barons Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. CT. Right-hander Alex Klonowski (2-2, 2.45 ERA) is slated to make the start for Mobile.
