JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (August 23, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, shut out the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 1-0 in the series opener Friday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Zack Kelly (3-6) retired the first 10 batters of the game and allowed just two hits in a career-high 6 2/3 innings. He issued one walk and recorded eight strikeouts. It was Kelly's second straight scoreless start on the road.
The BayBears (48-79 overall, 21-38 second half) tallied a run on three hits in the top of the first against Kolton Mahoney (4-4). Jordan Zimmerman drove in Bo Way with a fielder's choice. Mahoney allowed just two additional hits over the next six innings for Jacksonville (63-67, 34-26).
Jesus Castillo collected the final four outs and worked around a ninth-inning single to earn his second career save.
The BayBears continue the six-game road series against Jacksonville Saturday at 5:35 p.m. CDT. Southpaw Max Herrmann (1-2, 5.67 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Josh Roeder (1-4, 3.59 ERA) for the Jumbo Shrimp.
