BayBears silence Shrimp with early offensive outburst

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (July 3, 2017) - Three home runs in the first three innings helped the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, defeat the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 8-3 in the series finale Monday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville in front of a crowd of 11,398.
David Fletcher , Josè Briceño , and Tim Arakawa all hit home runs off Joe Gunkel (2-5). Fletcher's two-run homer in the first and Arakawa's three-run homer in the third were their first long balls of the season. Briceno hit a solo homer to begin the scoring in the third, his fifth of the year. It was the first time the BayBears (34-46 overall, 4-7 second half) hit three home runs in a game and two home runs in a single inning this year.
The eight runs on 10 hits in the first three frames provided plenty of support for Jake Jewell (5-5). Jewell gave up two runs, one earned, on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings pitched.
Brian Anderson hit his team-high 13th home run of the season with a solo shot in the eighth inning. It was his second home run of the series.
The BayBears return home to host the Mississippi Braves in a five-game series beginning Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. CT. Right-handed pitcher Jaime Barria (1-1, 0.76 ERA) is slated to make the start against righty Wes Parsons (0-1, 3.16 ERA) for the Braves.
