MOBILE, Ala. (May 10, 2019) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, split a doubleheader with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in front of 3,869 fans Friday night at Hank Aaron Stadium, winning the first game 1-0 and dropping the series finale 7-4.
GAME ONE:
Luis Madero (1-2) pitched six scoreless innings and allowed just three hits in his first Double-A win. Madero retired nine consecutive batters to finish his outing, and he retired 15 of the last 16 he faced. Joe Gatto worked around a single in the seventh to earn his first career save.
The BayBears provided Madero with just one run of support, which was enough in the second shutout victory of the series. Jahmai Jones , who had his second two-hit game of the month, scored on a Brendon Sanger single in the bottom of the first. Mobile had several opportunities to extend the lead but left seven runners on base.
Jorge Guzman (1-4) took the loss, despite limiting the damage with the bases loaded in the first and keeping the BayBears off the board for the next five frames.
GAME TWO:
The BayBears (15-19) erased an early two-run deficit but could not overcome a four-run Jacksonville (12-23) fourth inning.
After both teams scored a pair of runs in the first, the Jumbo Shrimp jumped back in front in the third. Magneuris Sierra opened the scoring in the fourth with a two-run homer off Jeremy Beasley (1-3), his first of the season. Brian Miller scored his third run of the game on a Justin Twine double, and Stone Garrett followed with an RBI single. Garrett went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs.
The BayBears loaded the bases to start the bottom of the fourth but only plated one run in the inning. Kaleb Cowart hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot in the fifth.
Jordan Yamamoto (2-3) gave up four runs, three earned, and earned the win. Dylan Lee retired the side in order in the seventh to earn his second save.
