BILOXI, Miss. (August 18, 2018) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, split a doubleheader against the Biloxi Shuckers to wrap up the six-game series Saturday night at MGM Park, winning the first game 7-1 and dropping the finale 6-0.
GAME ONE:
The BayBears jumped out to an early 6-0 lead before rain halted play for 1 hour, 52 minutes in the second inning. Following the delay, Mobile cruised to a 7-1 victory.
Jo Adell and Roberto Baldoquin both had three-hit games. Adell had a pair of doubles, a home run in the fourth, and scored three runs. Baldoquin matched his career-high with four RBIs, including a three-run triple in the second.
After grabbing an early 1-0 lead, Brendon Sanger led off the second with his second home run of the series. Following Baldoquin's bases-clearing triple, Joe Hudson drove him in with another triple to cap the scoring in a five-run frame against Cameron Roegner (0-1).
Ralston Cash (2-1) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief.
GAME TWO:
The BayBears (61-60 overall, 24-30 second half) were held to just one hit, a Jahmai Jones single, in a 6-0 loss in the series finale.
Thomas Jankins (10-8) tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings for Biloxi (71-54, 30-25) and retired the first nine batters of the game. Nate Griep recorded the final five outs for his league-high 30th save, tying him for first in all of Minor League Baseball.
The Shuckers scored three runs in the third and sixth. Clint Coulter had his second three-run hit of the series, clearing the bases with a double off Alex Klonowski (9-3) in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
The BayBears begin a five-game home series against the Mississippi Braves Sunday at 5:05 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Jesus Castillo (8-4, 4.81 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Ian Anderson (0-0, 2.25 ERA) for the Braves.
