PEARL, Miss. (May 8, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, grabbed an early 3-0 lead but were defeated 9-4 by the Mississippi Braves in the series opener Monday night at Trustmark Park.
Forrestt Allday went 3-for-4, including an RBI single in the third, to extend his on-base streak to 14 games. It was Allday's third three-hit game this season, and he has now recorded multiple hits in six of his last nine games.
However, the three early runs for Mobile (12-19) against Patrick Weigel (3-0) were not enough. The Braves (16-15) tied the game in the bottom of the third on Travis Demeritte's two-run homer to left-center. Mississippi plated three runs on five two-out hits off Alex Klonowski (1-2) in the frame.
The Braves plated additional runs in the fifth and sixth, followed by a four-run seventh inning. Carlos Franco hit a two-run homer, his team-high seventh of the season, and Levi Hyams drove in two more with a two-out single.
Adam Hofacket pitched a scoreless, hitless eighth inning with a strikeout in his Double-A debut.
