MOBILE, Ala. (June 7, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, won both games of a doubleheader Wednesday night against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at Hank Aaron Stadium.
GAME 1:
The BayBears scored four runs in the first three innings and went on to defeat Pensacola 8-2.
Wade Wass hit his ninth home run of the season off Deck McGuire (5-4) to put Mobile in front, and the BayBears added three more runs in the third. David Fletcher hit an RBI single and Zach Houchins plated two with a double.
After Pensacola scored twice in the fifth off Osmer Morales (3-1) to cut the lead to 4-2, Alberto Triunfel hit a triple with the bases loaded in the sixth. The BayBears scored four runs of insurance in the frame.
GAME 2:
In a game dominated by pitching, Zach Houchins delivered with a walk-off home run off Brennan Bernardino (1-3) in the eighth inning to provide the only run.
Eric Karch , Justin Anderson , Adam Hofacket , and Michael Dimock (1-1) combined to keep Pensacola (33-26) off the board for eight innings and allowed just three hits. Karch and Anderson opened the game retiring the first 14 batters before Anderson gave up a two-out triple in the fifth. The BayBears (26-33) pitching staff did not issue a walk while striking out 13 batters.
Forrestt Allday reached in both games to extend his league-leading on-base streak to 36 games.
The BayBears wrap up the five-game home series against Pensacola Thursday at 6:35 p.m. CT. Right-hander Grayson Long (3-3, 3.21 ERA) is slated to make the start against righty Luis Castillo (2-3, 3.00 ERA) for the Blue Wahoos.
