New York Yankees top pitching prospect (MLB Pipeline) Clarke Schmidt (L, 0-1) took the mound for Somerset in a rehab start. He struck out four batters and gave up a run on a bloop single to Zach Watson in his 2.2 innings of work.

“I was happy to be out there, it felt great,” Schmidt said in a post-game Zoom interview. “The elbow felt great. I thought the results were really good. Other than that one inning, I let maybe a pitch or two get away from me. Like I said I was happy with it and just throwing a lot of strikes.”

Ken Waldichuk relieved Schmidt and threw 5.2 innings with ten strikeouts. The southpaw gave up two solo home runs to Seth Mejias-Brean (1) in the fourth and Adley Rutschman (18) in the eighth. The Baysox plated their last run on an RBI groundout by Watson in the ninth.

Rodriguez fanned nine in his 4.2 scoreless innings. The Patriots had loaded bases twice, but were unable to scratch any runs across as they were shut out by a combination of Rodriguez, Tim Naughton, Diogenes Alemengo (W, 4-2), and Felix Bautista.

Somerset and Bowie continue the series on Friday night with a 7:05 pm game at TD Bank Ballpark.
