RICHMOND, V.A — The Bowie Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, shut out the Richmond Flying Squirrels by a final of 9-0 at The Diamond on Thursday night.

Bowie (10-8) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning off Richmond starting right-hander Matt Frisbee (L, 0-2) after Frederick Bencosme laced a two-run double down the right field line with two outs. The Orioles No. 27 prospect is third in the Eastern League in hits with 21.

After Bencosme’s double, TT Bowens extended Bowie’s first inning lead with an RBI single to right-center. Bowens leads the team in RBI with 16 so far on the season.

In the third inning, John Rhodes added a run with an RBI single to make it 4-0 Bowie. The Orioles No. 23 prospect has five hits, five RBI and two homers in the series.

Starting right-hander Ryan Long delivered his best outing of the season. The 24-year-old threw four scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and two walks while striking out a season-high seven batters in a no decision. It’s the first time Long has pitched a scoreless start in Double-A.

The Bowie bullpen combined for five shutout and hitless innings of relief.
