Beach Dogs and Tarpons Combine for 30 Hits in 14-6 Loss

CLEARWATER, FL – Cole Moore set a career-high with three hits in four at-bats, but the Clearwater Beach Dogs (42-18) lost 14-6 against the Tampa Tarpons (28-33) on Friday night at BayCare Ballpark. Clearwater looks to bounce back on Saturday in the fifth game of the homestand.
Jordan Dissin sent Sean Hermann’s first pitch of the bottom second into right field for a leadoff hit. Felix Reyes followed him up with a single and Moore scored them both on a double that ricocheted off Hermann’s leg into right field to make it 2-0 Beach Dogs.
Matt Alifano quickly plated more on an RBI single before he was caught trying to steal second. Emaarion Boyd reached on a two-out single to right-center. Justin Crawford lined the first pitch he saw down the third base line and scored Boyd on an RBI triple to bring the lead up to 4-0.
The Tarpons tied the game on a Brenny Escanio RBI single and home runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Bryan Rincon drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the fifth in a 4-4 tie. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and third on a balk before scoring on an Otto Kemp sacrifice fly that gave Clearwater a 5-4 lead.
A three-run sixth gave the Tarpons the lead back at 7-5. Cade Fergus reached on a one-out single in the home half of the sixth and advanced to second on a groundout. Crawford drove him in on a two-out single off Yorlin Calderon to bring the Beach Dogs within one at 7-6. Tampa unloaded in the final three innings, racking up seven unanswered runs to finish a 14-6 win over the Threshers.
Alex McFarlane tossed 2.0 shutout frames with one hit, one walk, and three strikeouts in a no-decision. Konnor Ash allowed one run on three hits with a strikeout in 1.0 inning. Zach Haake (0-1) allowed five runs on five hits in 2.2 innings with three walks and a strikeout and a blown save. Jonh Henriquez allowed five runs on four hits in 1.0 inning of work with two strikeouts, three walks, and a blown save. Andrew Walling tossed 1.1 scoreless frames with one hit and one walk allowed. Daniel Harper surrendered three runs in the final frame, allowing three hits and walking one.
