CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Beach Dogs pitching staff limited the Blue Jays to just four hits, but the Blue Jays were able to edge in the only run of the ballgame to win 1-0 on Friday night.
The lone run of the contest was scored by Dunedin (6-10) in the fifth inning. Ryan Sloniger singled on a fly ball to center field, but was erased from the bases after Justin Ammons grounded into a force out at second. Steward Berroa hit a sacrifice bunt and a throwing error allowed him to reach second base with Ammons stopping on third. Addison Barger then reached on an error that allowed the run to score.
Clearwater (7-9) starting pitcher Cristian Hernandez surrendered only one hit while striking out six batters and permitting one base on balls during his four innings on the mound.
Fernando Lozano (2-1) was tagged with the unearned run and suffered the loss. He allowed just two hits and delivered four strikeouts in three frames of work. Carlo Reyes threw two scoreless innings for the Beach Dogs. He walked just one batter and struck out two.
The Clearwater Threshers return Saturday night with Mick Abel (0-1) slated to start. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. for the 6:30 p.m. game with fireworks to follow. TICKETS
