Beck, Armenteros Explode In Snappers 18-4 Opening Victory
Lazaro Armenteros, Austin Beck and a record-setting night thrusted the Beloit Snappers (63-60, 31-23) shut the door on the Burlington Bees (46-75, 16-36) 18-4 in the first game of a three-game series Saturday night at Pohman Field in front of 2,634 fans.
Highlighting the night was an 11-run eighth for the Snappers that included eight hits, two doubles, a home run and couple of hit by pitches to make it 9-4. The Snappers also had 15 at bats in the inning.
Multiple Snappers would bat twice in the inning, including Beck who golfed a 2-1 pitch deep into the night to left field for a grand slam to make it 18-4. It was the first Snappers grand slam since 2016, Beck's second homer of the season and his first grand slam of his young career. Beck finished 3-for-6 with five RBI and two runs scored along with the homer.
It was a night of season-highs for the Snappers. They set new highs in runs (18), hits (18), extra-base hits (7), team total bases (28), runs in an inning (11), at bats in an inning (15) and hits in an inning (8).
With the score tied 2-2 in the fifth, the Snappers broke away with three runs on three hits, a walk and a wild pitch.

Putting the game out of reach early on was Armenteros in the sixth, sending a 1-2 pitch into orbit and banging off the left field scoreboard for a two-run homer to make it 7-2 Snappers.
Armenteros hit was the 10th of the night for the Snappers, giving them 21 of their last 34 games with 10 or more hits. For Armenteros, he led the way going 3-for-5 with the homer, two doubles, three RBI, two walks (one to force in a run) and eight total bases.
The Bees scored one in the third and fourth, the latter run giving Burlington a 2-1 lead in the fourth. They cut it to 7-4 in the sixth on a two-run homer from Alvaro Rubalcaba, but never got closer.

With the win, the Snappers improved to 23-13 on the season in series openers this season.
Game two of the series will begin Sunday and is the only afternoon game of the homestand, beginning at 2:00 p.m. Taking the hill to start for the Snappers will be left-hander Jared Poché (7-6, 4.44), followed by piggyback starter
