_SPRINGFIELD, MO – _The Wind Surge responded after a game one defeat, holding the Cardinals to just one run on their way to a game two 7-1 victory. Tyler Beck was outstanding in his first start of the year to set the tone for Wichita.

Unlike last night’s high-scoring affair, it took four innings for either team to breakthrough on the scoreboard. The Wind Surge were the first team to get rid of the 0 as they scored four runs over two innings. In the fourth inning, Leobaldo Cabrera blasted his 5th homer of the year with a two-run shot to deep left field.

In the top of the fifth, Austin Martin was hit by yet another pitch to reach base. BJ Boyd hit a ground ball to the first baseman Julio Rodriguez. Rodriguez tried to turn a double play as he threw the ball to second base. Instead, the ball bounced oddly and ended up in left field. Martin advanced to third, and then eventually advanced home on a throwing error by the left fielder David Vinsky trying to throw the ball back into the infield. Boyd advanced all the way to third on the play. Next up, Jermaine Palacios hit a rocket to the left field wall for his 15th double of the year to score Boyd and put Wichita up 4-0.

The Wind Surge added three more runs to their lead in the top of the eighth. With runners on the corners, Leobaldo Cabrera picked up another RBI with a single up the middle to score Palacios from third and move Andrew Bechtold to third. Cabrera finished the night going 2-4 at the plate with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. D.J. Burt then hit a hard, bouncing groundball to third baseman Malcom Nunez. Nunez could not transfer the ball from his mitt to his hand to throw out Burt, allowing Bechtold to trot home. Later in the inning with the bases loaded and one out, Chris Williams hit a deep fly ball to the right field corner to allow Cabrera to tag and score from third for a sacrifice fly and to increase the lead to seven runs for the Surge.

The Cardinals scored their one and only run in the bottom of the eighth off an RBI ground-rule double by Malcom Nunez, but Wichita bounced back after a game one loss to take game two tonight. Jason Garcia pitched 1.2 innings of relief, allowing one run on four hits and striking out two.

Tyler Beck was stellar in his first start in a Wind Surge uniform this year. Beck went 6.0 scoreless innings, allowing just five hits while recording six strikeouts.

Bryan Sammons pitched one innings of scoreless relief while picking up two strikeouts.

NOTES: BJ Boyd’s hit streak ends at 12 games, he batted .393 in the streak with 21 hits in 53 at bats, with nine home runs and 21 RBI. It was the longest hit streak for the Surge.
