Storm Chasers starting pitcher Jake Kalish tossed seven-plus strong frames, however Bees first baseman Justin Bour and center fielder Michael Hermosillo each drove in two runs in Salt Lake's 5-4 eleven-inning win over Omaha in front of a sellout crowd of 9,023 on Friday night at Werner Park.
It was the Storm Chasers' second sellout crowd of the year, with the other coming on July 4. It was also the first sellout crowd at Werner Park in the month of August since August 28, 2015.
Kalish (7.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R, ER, BB, 6 K) spun 7.1 solid innings, marking the first time an Omaha starter has pitched into the eighth. Despite his efforts, Kalish did not factor in the final decisions, with lefty Gabe Speier (3.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, BB, 2 K) suffering the defeat. Salt Lake southpaw Sam Freeman (3.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, ER, 2 K), meanwhile, earned the win.
Entering the 11th tied at 3-3, the Bees plated a trio of tallies, including a two-run single from Bour, to grab a 6-3 advantage. Omaha pinch hitter Xavier Fernandez would cut the deficit to 6-5 with a two-run double to left, however the Storm Chasers were unable to bring across the tying run from that point onward.
Salt Lake RF Jarrett Parker push Salt Lake ahead 1-0 with a solo shot in the third. Omaha would then take advantage of a pair of bases-loaded walks to go ahead 2-1, however Hermosillo would lift a solo homer to left to even the contest and force the extra frames.
Bour (2-5, 2 RBI) and Hermosillo (2-4, R, HR, 2 RBI) each collected two knocks for Salt Lake, while Omaha 3B Kelvin Gutierrez (2-5, R) and DH Elier Hernandez (2-5, R) tallied multi-hit efforts as well.
