Bees Stumped by LumbeKings, 8-4
(Burlington, IA) - The Burlington Bees (60-78) lost the second game of a three game series, 8-4, to the Clinton LumberKings (63-73) on Sunday afternoon at Community Field.

The LumberKings opened the scoring on Sunday afternoon. With one out in the top of the first inning, Jhombeyker Morales doubled to left. After Nick Zammarelli worked a walk, Yojhan Quevedo doubled in Morales, giving the LumberKings a 1-0 lead. Elvin Rodriguez was able to get out of the inning with no further damage, striking out three LumberKings' hitters.
The Bees had an answer in the bottom of the first inning. After falling behind in the count at 0-2, Leonardo Rivas worked a full count and doubled to right-center. Jonah Todd then reached on an error, putting runners on the corners. Julian Leon tied the game by hitting a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Rivas, tying the game at one.
Burlington took the lead in the third inning. John Schuknecht started the inning with a double and then came around to score on a throwing error on a bunt from Leonardo Rivas, giving the Bees a 2-1 lead. Jonah Todd then lined a single to center, scoring Rivas, extending the Bees' lead to 3-1. The inning was capped off thanks to a Richie Fecteau double off the wall in right, scoring Todd, pushing the lead to 4-1.
The Bees' lead didn't last long as the LumberKings came roaring back in the fifth. Gareth Morgan opened the frame with a solo home run to left. After Jhombeyker Morales reached on a strike out wild pitch, Nick Zammarelli singled, putting runners at first and second. A wild pitch then scored Morales all the way from second base, cutting the Bees' lead to 4-3. After Yojhan Quevedo was hit by a pitch, Zammarelli came home to tie the game on a throwing error on a Quevedo stolen base. Clinton then took the lead on a Dimas Ojeda sacrifice fly, making the score 5-4.
Insurance runs came in the seventh for the LumberKings as they went on to score three runs on a two-run single from Dimas Ojeda and a RBI single off the bat of Nick Thurman, extending Clinton's lead to 8-4. The Bees attempted to rally but left the bases loaded in the eighth, losing 8-4. Clinton starter Steven Ridings (2-3) earned the win while Bees' starter Elvin Rodriguez (0-2) was charged with the loss. Steven Moyers (1) worked four innings for the save.
The Bees will finish off the 2017 season on Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. against the Clinton LumberKings at Community Field.
