(Burlington, IA) - The Burlington Bees (56-73) surrendered five runs in the ninth inning, losing 7-5 to the Clinton LumberKings (59-68) on Thursday night at Community Field.

The Bees entered play on Thursday night without scoring a run in their last 17 innings. The Bees didn't let that streak continue for very long, grabbing the lead in the first inning. With two outs and the bases empty, Julian Leon reached on a fielding error and moved to second on a passed ball. Richie Fecteau put the Bees in front by launching a two-run home run to right, giving the Bees a 2-0 lead.
Sam McDonnell opened the second inning with a double to right and then moved to third on a wild pitch. John Schuknecht flew out center but McDonnell was thrown out at the plate four out number two. With the bases empty, Artemis Kadkhodaian singled to left and stole second. Stephen Kerr then extended the Bees' lead to 3-0 with a two-out RBI single, scoring Kadkhodaian.
The LumberKings cut the Bees' lead to just one run in the third inning. Louis Boyd started the inning with a single and moved to third on a two base error. With one out and runners at second and third, Jhombeyker Morales singled to center, scoring two runs, cutting the Bees' lead to 3-2.
Burlington ended up getting both of those runs back in the fifth inning. Brandon Sandoval opened the frame with a single to center and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Richie Fecteau singled to left, scoring Sandoval, extending the Bees' lead to 4-2. Sam McDonnell then drove in Fecteau with a single, pushing the Bees' lead to 5-2.
Clinton went on to bat nine times in the top of the ninth inning to take the lead. Louis Boyd started the inning with a double. After Billy Cooke walked, Johnny Slater singled to right, loading the bases. After a strikeout for out for the first out of the inning, Yojhan Quevedo reached on an infield single, scoring Boyd. With two outs, Gareth Morgan blasted a triple to center, scoring three runs, giving the LumberKings a 6-5 lead. Joe Rizzo then doubled to left, scoring Morgan, extending the lead to 7-5.
Clinton reliever Seth Elledge (3-0) earned the win while Connor Riley (0-1) was charged with the loss.
