Bees Sweep PCL Monthly Honors

SALT LAKE CITY (June 3, 2022) – Minor League Baseball announced today that Salt Lake Bees left-handed pitcher Jake Kalish was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Month for May and first baseman David MacKinnon was named PCL Player of the Month.

Kalish finished May with a 3-0 record and 1.05 ERA in four starts. He allowed 15 hits and three walks while striking out 27 in 25.2 innings. On the season Kalish leads the PCL in ERA (1.76), wins (6) and WHIP (0.91) and is second in average allowed (.200). Originally selected by Kansas City in the 32nd round of the 2015 MLB Draft out of George Mason University, Kalish is in his first season with the Angels organization.

MacKinnon hit .344/.436/.656 in May posting a 1.092 OPS. The first-year Bee had a terrific all-around month, leading the PCL in hits (33), while finishing second in RBI (25) and total bases (63), third in runs (22), fourth in home runs (seven), fifth in average (.344) and walks (16). This is the second honor of the month for MacKinnon after being selected as the PCL Player of the Week on May 23. MacKinnon is in his fifth year with the Angels organization after being selected in the 32nd round of the 2017 MLB Draft out of the University of Hartford.

The Bees are in the middle of a nine-game homestand at Smith’s Ballpark with three games remaining against El Paso Friday-Sunday followed by three games with Tacoma Tuesday-Thursday. Promotions during the homestand include postgame fireworks on Saturday night, brunch at the ballpark on Sunday and a lunch special for Thursday’s day game.
