(Geneva, IL) - The Burlington Bees (20-31) lost their third consecutive game, getting swept by the Kane County Cougars (30-22), losing the series finale, 10-4, at Northwestern Medicine Field.
(Geneva, IL) - The Burlington Bees (20-31) lost their third consecutive game, getting swept by the Kane County Cougars (30-22), losing the series finale, 10-4, at Northwestern Medicine Field.
Kane County took the lead first for the first time in the series. Anfernee Grier singled and then advanced to second on a balk charged to Erik Manoah Jr., Manoah then was charged with his second balk of the inning, moving Grier to third. With two outs, Manoah was charged with his third balk of the inning, scoring Grier, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
The Bees took their first lead of the game in the second inning. John Schuknecht started the inning with an infield single and then moved to second on an infield single by Jordan Zimmerman. The Bees tied the game thanks to a throwing error after a Brennan Morgan single, scoring Schuknecht. With runers at second and third, Sam McDonnell grounded out, scoring Zimmerman, giving the Bees a 2-1 lead.
After Kane County tied it in the bottom of the second inning on an Alexis Olmeda RBI single, the Bees retook the lead in the fifth. Derek Jenkins reached on a fielding error with one out and then moved to second on a wild pitch. Keith Grieshaber picked up his second double of the game, scoring Jenkins, putting the Bees on top 3-2.
Bees' reliver Jackson Zarubin retired the first two batters of the bottom of the seventh before surrending back-to-back singles to Grier and Marcus Wilson. Mark Karaviotis doubled down the left field line, scoring two runs, giving the Cougars a 4-3 lead. The Cougars weren't done, opening the game up in the eigth, batting 11 times and scoring six runs, extending the lead 10-3.
The Bees added a final run in the top of the ninth inning. John Schuknecht started the inning with a single and then scored on a Sam McDonnell triple, making the score 10-4. Tyler Mark (3-1) earned the win for the Cougars while Jackson Zarubin (3-1) was charged with the loss.

NOTES: Angel Almao had his four game hit streak snapped. Erick Manoah now leads the team with five balks this season. First time Bees have been swept since 5/17 when they were swept in a three game series by Quad Cities. Bees' pitchers allowed 36 hits in the series.
