Bees Use big Innings To Beat Kernels

(Burlington, IA) - The Burlington Bees (52-69) used two bigs innings to beat the Cedar Rapids Kernels (63-59), 7-2, on Wednesday night at Community Field. 

(Burlington, IA) - The Burlington Bees (52-69) used two bigs innings to beat the Cedar Rapids Kernels (63-59), 7-2, on Wednesday night at Community Field. 

A night after falling behind 4-0 early, the Bees took a 4-0 lead early in game number three. Artemis Kadkhodaian opened the bottom of the third inning with a single to left and then stole second base. Kadkhodaian came home to score on an error that allowed Franklin Navarro to reach, giving the Bees a 1-0 lead. After Jonah Todd reached on a fielder's choice and an error, Leonardo Rivas singled to left, loading the bases. Richie Fecteau then drew a bases loaded walk, scoring Navarro extending the Bees' lead to 2-0. Brennan Morgan was then hit by a pitch, scoring Todd, making the score 3-0. Rivas came home to score on a double play, pushing the Bees' lead to 4-0.
Cedar Rapids got on the board in the fourth inning thanks to a Shane Carrier home run, cutting the Bees' lead to 4-1. The Kernels inched closer in the fifth, scoring a run on a Bees' error.
The Bees bullpen would combine to throw 4.1 scoreless innings as the Bees added some insurance in the bottom of the seventh inning. With on out, Jonah Todd drew a walk and then moved to second on a walk issued to Leonardo Rivas. Richie Fecteau lined a triple to right-center, scoring both runners, extending the Bees' lead to 6-2. Brennan Morgan made it a 7-2 lead with a double to right, scoring Fecteau.
Bees' reliever Ty Barkell (2-6) retired all seven batters he faced, in order, earning the win while Kernels' starter Tyler Watson (0-3) was charged with the loss. Bees' starter Jose Suarez struck out seven batters in 4.2 innings. 
The Bees and the Kernels will finish the series up on Thursday at 6:30 at Community Field for Buffalo Tavern Thirsty Thursday.
