Snappers Spoil Rattlers Rally With Late Run

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers staged a furious comeback in game two of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Beloit Snappers at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The Rattlers trailed 6-2 going to the bottom of the sixth, but evened the score with a four run outburst. Then, the Snappers received a clutch two-out RBI hit in the top of the seventh to take a 7-6 lead that they would not lose. The teams split the twinbill with Wisconsin winning game one 4-2.
The teams traded runs in the second inning. In the top of the second, Austin Beck singled and stole second. Then, Jordan Devencenzi doubled to knock in Beck for the Snappers. Wisconsin loaded the bases in the bottom of the second on singles by Pat McInerney and Gilbert Lara and a walk to Devin Hairston. McInerney would score on a wild pitch by Beloit starter Bryce Conley threw a wild pitch.

Beloit (14-19) went back in front with a four-run third inning that saw them drive Wisconsin starter Carlos Herrera out of the game. The frame started with a walk, a stolen base, a single, and another stolen base. Lazaro Armenteros, the third hitter of the inning, doubled to knock in both runners and put the Snappers up 3-1.

Herrera gave up a single and hit a batter to load the bases with no outs and end his day.

Reliever Michael Petersen entered in a tough spot and allowed two runs to score. Devencenzi had an RBI single and Jack Meggs grounded into a force out at second that let in the run to put the Snappers up 5-1.

Jay Feliciano, who had a two-run single to put Wisconsin (18-20) in the lead in game one of the doubleheader, hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Snappers scored an insurance run in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Trace Loehr.

The insurance was not enough as the Rattlers rallied for four runs to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth.

Wisconsin loaded the bases with one out against Jesus Zambrano and Lara lined a single to center off the glove of the Beloit shortstop to score two runs. Nick Highberger took over for Zambrano as Beloit's third pitcher of the game and got the second out on a ground out that moved two runners into scoring position for Feliciano.

The Rattlers left fielder came through with single to right that scored both runs to tie the game 6-6. Feliciano had five RBI in the twinbill with the Snappers.

Matt Hardy, who had come in from the Wisconsin bullpen to get the final out of the sixth inning, gave up a leadoff single to Beck, who had three hits in the nightcap, in the top of the seventh. A sacrifice bunt moved Beck to second before Hardy got the second out on a foul pop. But, Hardy could not get the final out before Jesus Lopez sliced a single to right to score Beck with the go-ahead run.

The Rattlers tried to mount a rally in the bottom of the seventh as KJ Harrison and McInerney draw walks with two outs, but Gabriel García, who had run for Lara in the sixth inning, grounded into a game-ending force play.

The loss ended Wisconsin's five-game winning streak. The win ended Beloit's six-game losing streak.
Game four of the series is set for Wednesday night at Neuroscience Group Field. Nelson Hernández (5-2, 3.77) is set to start for the Timber Rattlers. Beloit has named Ivan Andueza (0-1, 7.84) as their starting pitcher. Game time is 6:35pm.
