WICHITA – The Wind Surge scored nine unanswered runs to knock off the Hooks, 9-2, in Tuesday’s series opener at Riverfront Stadium
Since reeling off a season-best six-game win streak, Corpus Christi has dropped three in a row.
After managing just one hit over the first three innings against Cody Deason, Wichita marched eight men to the plate in the fourth, turning a 2-0 Hooks lead into a two-run advantage for the home club.
The Wind Surge totaled 13 hits over their final five turns at-bat, scoring in each frame from the fourth through the eighth. Each man in the Wichita lineup reached base, with all but one collecting a hit.
Deason was ejected by home plate umpire Ty Krauss with two outs in the fourth for arguing balls and strikes.
Meanwhile, the Wind Surge bullpen permitted just two hits while striking out 12 over 6 1/3 innings to finish the game.
Ross Adolph, who had missed the last 11 weeks due to injury, went 2-for-4 with an RBI in his return to the active roster.
The Hooks, playing in Wichita for the first time since 2007, plan to send Jayden Murray to the mound in Game 2 Wednesday night. Murray was acquired by the Astros at the trade deadline last week. First pitch 7:05.
