After their game on Thursday night was suspended, the Biloxi Shuckers (15-30) completed their nine-inning game against the Montgomery Biscuits (20-24), falling 12-1, before playing a seven-inning game in which the Biscuits topped Biloxi 3-2 in eight innings on Friday night at MGM Park.
In their game that started on Thursday evening, the Shuckers allowed 10 runs on 10 hits in the first inning to the Biscuits. RHP Jesus Castillo (L, 0-2) allowed seven runs in just 0.2 innings. Biloxi would get their lone run of the game on a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning by Brent Diaz, his second of the season, extending his on-base streak to 14 games. The contest went into a rain delay on Thursday night heading to the top of the third inning.
When the game resumed on Friday night, LHP Leo Crawford tossed 5.1 innings, allowing two runs, one earned. For the Biscuits, RHP Tobias Myers (W, 3-3) covered most of the remaining seven frames, hurling five shutout innings for Montgomery.
In the second game, LHP Andy Otero got the start for Biloxi and worked around some traffic in the first two innings to keep the game scoreless going to the bottom of the second. Gabriel Garcia doubled in the Shuckers’ half of the inning but was thrown out at home attempting to score on a single to right by Chad Spanberger for the last out of the frame.
Montgomery jumped out to a lead on a pair of solo home runs and held a 2-0 advantage going to the bottom of the sixth. Brice Turang started a Shuckers’ rally with a one-out walk and Luis Castro followed with a single to left. In the next at bat, Tristen Lutz reached on a fielder’s choice and Castro was safe at second on a fielding error, loading the bases for Garcia. The left fielder worked a walk to force in a run and Cam Devanney tied the game with a single to right field. RHP Jordan Brink (BS, 1) kept the Shuckers from scoring the go-ahead run by stranding the bases loaded.
After both teams went scoreless in the seventh, the game went to extra innings in the eighth. Montgomery scored their base runner on a sacrifice fly from Jim Haley, putting the Biscuits up 3-2. In the bottom of the eighth, LHP Ivan Pelaez (W, 3-4) walked Castro to start the inning but Lutz hit into a 6-4-3 double play that cancelled out the walk and did move Turang to third as the tying run. Garcia was intentionally walked and Devanney lined out to short to end the game.
Biloxi continues their series against the Biscuits on Saturday night at 6:35 pm. RHP Bubba Derby (NR) is set to start for the Shuckers opposite Biscuits’ RHP Adrian De Horta (0-0, 2.70). The game can be heard locally on Cruisin’ WGCM AM 1240/FM 100.9 and can be seen on MiLB.TV.
